Relax
I can see the large spikes of purple stretching out in all directions. Bees clinging and hovering creating a harmonic buzz of sweet herbal delight. As they move from flower to flower, I try to reach in and politely cut a modest bunch of lavender for my own pleasure. My mom always has baskets of lavender from her garden dried and ready when I come to visit. Many times my grandfather would cut it for me. We shared a bond and he taught me with his humble approach to living. Did he think of me when he was out there performing this act of love? I know he had a special kinship with all of Gods blessings and I drew a lot of this feeling directly from him. I have memories of my mother, sister, and I sitting at the kitchen table shucking lavender, sharing, and creating. Tradition in the making, whatever it was, it encapsulated us in an old way of life and held that moment as a glimpse of time that could never be lost.
The relax blend reflects my relationship with family and tradition. Simplicity derived from complexity. Simple and pure, with only one essential oil. I chose lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), the mother of essential oils. It projects a soft yet powerful nurturing to those who come into contact with it. I like to use the relax aroma mist as a toner after cleansing but I also have one in my car to be used anytime, and one in my bathroom. My daughter has her own relax mist next to her bed and she asks for it routinely when we are winding down for sleep. We all give each other a spritz and it seems to have a positive mellowing effect. The relax body roll-on I like to use as a deodorant or perfume. It is completely pure and evaporates quickly but it is soft and leaves my skin feeling luxurious. Plus I get to receive all the benefits of lavender, as well.
ESSENTIAL OIL PROFILE FOR.......RELAX
LAVENDER (Lavandula angustifolia)
EMOTIONS, MENTAL, PSYCHE/SPIRIT/PHYSICAL: Distillation of flowers and leaves, the country of origin for lavender which comes from the Roman word "lavore" which means "to wash" is England, France, Yugoslavia, and Bulgaria. I believe in my own experience that the energetic field of lavender works harmoniously with an affinity for the crown chakra but also energizes all chakra centers of the body. Its balancing action aids restlessness, insomnia, anxiety, among many other emotional and mental imbalances.
Lavender is generally regarded as the most useful and versatile essence for therapeutic purposes. It has a sedative and tonic action on the heart (hysteria, nervous tension, palpitations) and lowers high blood pressure. It is a mild local analgesic, and calms cerebro-spinal excitiabilty, it is renowned for its nervine-sedative properties, and has proved valuable in a variety of nervous and psychological disorders, including depression, insomnia, migraine, hysteria, nervous tension, and paralysis. Lavender is also useful where there is inflammation, hence is it used in burns, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, boils, rheumatism, wounds, ulcers, conjunctivitis, cystitis, diarrhea, laryngitis, and so on (Tisserand, 1977).
